Kin Bees

Award Winning Honey and Hive Management

If bees were to disappear from the face of the Earth, humans would have just four years to live.
— Sir David Attenborough

The first time I looked inside a beehive I was completely hooked.

A chance encounter led me to a sunny Perthshire hillside with my heart nervously pounding in my ears as a slight puff of wood smoke wafted across the hive entrance and the roof was carefully lifted off. I had never seen anything so mesmerizing or so beautiful and now a part-time hobby has developed into a slight obsession and an award-winning business.

Restoring the Biome

The Kin bees are part of an amazing NEW local farming project at Urquhart Farms to restore the natural biome of the soil using traditional methods while moving away from the fertiliser/pesticide regimes of recent decades. As the traditional Scottish Wildflower Meadow enters its third year we can’t wait to see even more bees, butterflies, hover flies and moths take up residence in this rewilded haven.

Even better, it involves Scottish heritage breeds of Highland Cows, Scotch Dumpie Chickens and Black Faced Sheep.

Sponsored by GAC UK, we’ll be posting regular updates on our social media as the Project progresses.
